Breathing In The Moment

Therapeutic walks in nature don’t need to be far afield and they don’t need to be extensively planned and researched.

Today as I strolled along the pavements down through town after an appointment, I noticed what I thought was the strong and vivid scent of roses. Realising we are a good few months away from the scent of roses being something I would expect, my mind spun into life – considering that maybe the scent was wafting from the waxing shop across the road further down the hill, or the florists further down the hill again.

As I continued on, the scent became more pungent and quite hard to miss, where was this auspicious scent coming from?

I stopped and looked around for a sensible answer – curious to solve my sensory mystery, looking to my right where a townhouse stood.

There outside the garden walls, on the verge – was the answer.

I tiptoed alongside and inhaled the sweet, pink flowers …and there it was !

I inhaled the sweet , rich scent and was tickled to find honey bees appearing from deep inside the bush, buzzing around the flowers, revealing themselves from the depths of the leaves….it’s surely a sign that Spring is on the horizon!

I snapped some images with my phone which then informed me that my amazing scented treasure hunt had led me to a ‘Daphne Odoro’, a highly scented shrub which flowers in winter and runs through until March. What a lovely surprise!

The next time you are headed out to an appointment or a place you can walk to, allowing yourself extra time for the journey can open up moments of unexpected joy.

When to Sit With It and When to Move

We are told to process, to feel, to reflect—but also to take action, to move forward, to stop overthinking. The difficulty is not that either approach is wrong. It’s that they are often confused for one another, or used at the wrong time.

Knowing when to sit with something and when to move is less about rules and more about listening for what the moment is asking of you.

Dreaming of Springtime

Something begins to stir as we leave winter behind and move into the transitional months — February and March, stretching into early April. On waking, our dreams can feel closer than usual. More vivid. More emotional. Strangely cinematic. You might waken in the early hours with a full plotline still running: images, feelings, a half‑formed story that hasn’t quite settled with the morning.

A Bit About Boredom…

As boring as it sounds, boredom can be surprisingly interesting…perhaps it is boredom which brought you here today?
Our good friend the internet has transformed how we respond both to boredom and uncertainty. It is almost instinctive to reach for our phones for immediate answers and entertainment. It feels like we always have an expert within reach.
